In a painful humanitarian scene that embodies the extent of the suffering experienced by the displaced in the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian Alfat Al-Majdoub, 38, stood helpless in front of her tent, which was sunk in rainwater with the arrival of the first atmospheric depression in the Strip, while alone facing the responsibility of caring for four orphaned children after her husband was killed during the Israeli war on Gaza. The tent where Al-Majdoub took refuge with her children is no longer able to protect them from rain and cold, after the water leaked inside it and flooded the place, to find the mother herself facing a new tragedy that adds to her continuous suffering since the loss of her husband and her displacement from her home. The Palestinian mother is living in extremely harsh human conditions, as she tries to provide the most basic elements of life for her four children amid the absence of safe shelter and the necessary possibilities to face the winter, at a time when fears of continued rain and worsening the suffering of families living inside the tents. The story of this widow embodies part of the tragedy of thousands of women and children in the Gaza Strip, who have lost their breadwinner and homes and are facing harsh displacement conditions in disolated tents that do not provide adequate protection from weather fluctuations. With the sinking of the tents of the displaced in various areas of the Gaza Strip, humanitarian appeals are escalating for urgent intervention to provide safe shelters, rain-resistant tents, blankets and winter clothes, especially for families headed by orphaned women and children. Between the loss of the husband and the sinking of the tent and the responsibility of four children, Alfat Al-Majdoub stands in front of a harsh reality that she does not know how to face, after rainwater threatens the last shelter she gathers with her children.
