Following a harsh night of heavy rain, strong winds, and torrential floods, thousands of displaced people in the camps are experiencing an extremely severe humanitarian situation after their tents were submerged and their belongings completely ruined. After a difficult and exhausting day spent by residents repairing and re-erecting what they could of the torn tents, families now face a real shock due to the loss of the most basic necessities for survival. Rainwater inundated bedding and blankets, damaged tarpaulins and fabrics, and left families without winter clothes to protect them from the bitter cold. As darkness fell, the features of the tragedy appeared even harsher and more miserable. Displaced people spent their night in extremely difficult conditions inside their damp and dilapidated tents, unable to warm their children after floods swallowed bedding and clothes, and mud covered the corners of their temporary shelters. Camp residents expressed deep concern about the severe shortage of blankets, bedding, and clothes for the elderly and children, especially given the complete lack of alternatives after the floods destroyed all belongings and personal effects. Residents affirmed that their individual attempts to repair tents and fix damage are merely temporary and inadequate solutions given the fragility of the current infrastructure and the poor quality of materials used. Amid these catastrophic conditions, displaced people have issued urgent and continuous appeals to local and international humanitarian and relief organizations for immediate intervention to salvage the situation and provide appropriate shelter supplies, including sturdy tents, insulating tarpaulins, blankets, and winter clothes, to preserve the dignity and protect the health of the displaced, especially with the continuation of low-pressure systems and the expected worsening of the humanitarian crisis in the camps.
